Rathfinny have been making wines for a dozen years now, from their base near Alfriston in the South Downs, 3 miles away from the Channel where only estate-grown fruit makes it into their fabulous fizz. Made from only the finest parcels of their Chardonnay, their Blanc de Blanc is zesty and fresh, balanced with an opulent creaminess with a long, hazelnut finish. After 200 years and seven generations, Blandy’s are still at the forefront of Madeira wine, unique in still owning and running their own company. Molino Real was established in 1995 with a view to reviving the region’s famed ‘Mountain Wine’, a naturally sweet style of wine that once rivalled Sauternes, Tokaji and Germany in terms of reputation. Made from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown on steep south and west facing slopes 550 metres above sea level, this dessert wine shines with intense aromas of candied fruit, honey and floral notes. 13% abv

Ruby Port is a style made to be drunk relatively young, retaining much of the fruitiness and colour from the grapes owing to the shorter ageing periods. This Special Reserve is an exclusive selection of the best barrels of Ruby Port produced by Poças each year. Raisin, fig and prune notes dominate a deliciously rich, sweet port. Bedoba Orange is a blend of 70% Rkatsiteli and 30%Kisi, varieties unique to Georgia. The Rkatsiteli, grown on 25 year old vineyards on blue slate soil, adds the richness, while the Kisi - from a cooler microclimate on limestone soil - brings the freshness to a textural, complex wine bursting with notes of dried apricots, honey, orange peel and wild herbs. The Manfredi family first put down vines in the Langhe almost 100 years ago and the winemaking has passed down the generations ever since. Their Barolo is made from hand-harvested Nebbiolo grapes at the peak of ripeness to ensure maximum concentration of dried berries and wild cherry aromas. Three years’ maturation in oak ensures the wine is released as the vibrant fruit and rose flavours marry perfectly with the spice and smoky leather notes with that exhilarating Barolo tannin grip. Pinot Nero, originally of French origin, is of great importance in the far north of Italy where it is used, along with that other import, Chardonnay to make stylish sparkling wines. It is a variety popular with producers for making expressive still reds too, as this wine proves. Charmingly light ruby in colour, the bouquet is full of sweet cherries and forest fruits. A fruity, delicate wine. 12.5% abv

You know how much we love Grenache, and we couldn’t resist bringing this one into our range too. Made by a sustainability-led winery on the Orbieu river in the heart of Corbières, this rich, smooth red is bursting with red berries and black cherry with hints of black pepper and herbs. A wine of perfect balance, well structured with a satisfying lengthy finish. 15% abv

A jolly decent everyday drop from the Masse family’s vineyards in Moulon to the south of Saint-Emilion. Maybe ‘Tour de Lunch-ey’ would be more apt, as this is Luncheon Claret at its most accessible - a Merlot focussed blend with 10% each of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc, featuring notes of baked cherry fruit, chocolate, spice and sweet oak.

A splendid, sumptuous sparkling wine made from organic Chardonnay grapes and aged to perfection before release. Rich, rounded and layered - hazelnut toast and quince flavours give way to a lively palate and a velvety mouthfeel. Armilla refers to Avondale’s emblem - the Armillary Sphere- and their modus operandi, where each stage of the winemaking is decreed by the position of the stars around the earth.

The brainchild of Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and English MW Patrick McGrath, Domaine Evremond is the realisation of a dream ten years in the making, showcasing the terroir of the 70 hectares under vine at the estate’s home in Chilham, Kent. This delicious, stylish Quality English Sparkling Wine is made up of 55% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier. 12% abv

An excellent find from a recent tasting, and another great example of independent Champagne houses going toe to toe with the established names. Family owned since 1808, Henriot has forged its reputation for producing Champagnes of finesse and elegance. ‘Corallian’ is Langham’s Chardonnay-led sparkling wine blend, named after the coral-rich limestone rock strata 300 metres below the Dorset based estate at Crawthorne farm. Lemon zest and jasmine lead to sea salt and smoky citrus on the nose, while the palate is dominated by punchy citrus and stone fruit flavours backed up by herbaceous hints with a minerally, fresh finish. Chenin Blanc is expertly blended with aromatic, expressive varieties Roussanne, Muscat, Semillon and Viognier for an engaging, elegant organically made white wine. Jonty’s Ducks refers to Avondale’s unique pest control team at the vineyard - the owner’s flock who are allowed to waddle freely about the vines keeping unwanted insects at bay.

A beautifully balanced, juicy Pinot Gris from stellar producer Babich, who are New Zealand’s most experienced family-owned winery, having been established in 1916. Red apple and pear notes greet the nose followed by hints of lime and stone fruit. The palate is awash with pear and ginger handing over to baked apple and lime flavours with a lush, creamy mouthfeel.

Made from low yields of grapes from a mix of soil types, discover classic Gewurztraminer aromas of lychee, rose petals and warm spice as they intertwine with a rich, powerful, complex palate and flavours of pink grapefruit and marmalade.
