Let’s take the scenic route! Meet at East Sands Leisure Centre for a safety briefing, before we set off on the Fife Coastal Path for a 2.5-hour circular walk. About
American by birth, Scottish by marriage, I moved to this stunning coastline in 2023 and have refused to budge!
Beach-combing is my daily obsession in all weathers. I love the home feeling of getting to know a particular stretch of shoreline over months and years as the tides shift. I love exploring a new cove, coastal village, or local cafe overlooking the sea.
I don’t always have hours at the beach on a sunny day at low tide - life is expansive and this is Scotland after all! Some days I have 10 minutes before school run and there’s next to no beach at all if the tide is high. Some days I’m in waterproof trousers in the middle of an estuary, sporting a balaclava and timing the seconds my gloves can be off to pick up “just one more” find before my fingers freeze.
But nearly every day, I’m out for a Lark to breathe the salty sea air and immerse my senses in the crashing waves, stubborn sand, ice-cold water, and slippery seaweed-covered rocks.
Everything about spending time on the Fife coastline brings me joy. CoastLark is my way of sharing this passion and wonder with you.
