This workshop is designed to take you through making several styles of Dorset button, but not the normal ring buttons. We'll cover Dorset knobs, grindles, birds eye, and singleton buttons. This is a great workshop for expanding your button making skills, or exploring this wonderful craft in a different way. You can bring up to 8 people for this workshop. The price is for the time, not per person. Let us know how many before the day. You will need 3-4 closed rings 35mm in diameter, 20m of sock yarn or cotton perle 5 weight, a size 18 tapestry needle, a sharp needle with a large enough eye to take the thread, strong sewing cotton, 20cm square of cotton fabric, small scraps of fabric, and scissors. This workshop is great for moving your needle felting to the next level. You'll learn to felt around a wire/pipe cleaner frame to give you're felting structure. We'll cover materials, technique and finishing. You'll go home with a fabulous piece of felted art and brand new skills. You can make any sort of critter, or a tree, or flower. You will need a photo or image of the item you want to make, pipe cleaners, core wool, corriadale sliver in colours of your chosen item, at least 1 x 38 gauge felting needle, felting mat, and scissors. This workshop will show you how to make Beaded Dorset buttons. We'll start with a crosswheel, the most popular and easiest style to make, if you haven't made buttons before. Then we'll look at different ways for adding beads to Dorset buttons,and progress through various stitching techniques to make your own piece. We'll cover threads, rings, tools and a little history. We'll also explore different ways of using them. You can bring up to 8 people for this workshop. The price is for the time, not per person. Let us know how many before the day. This series of workshops is designed to give you the basics in knitting and is held over 4 sessions of 2 hours each. You will have homework to do in between each session! Each session builds on the last. Left and right handed students welcome. Session 1 will teach you the cast on and knit, show you how to hold the yarn and needles and how to work back and forth. You will need 2 or more balls of good quality double knit yarn/wool and a pair of 4.5mm knitting needles. Materials and needles are available to buy from us if you prefer.
